As a mental health advocate, I always emphasize the need to prioritise our mental health just like we do our physical health. This is because good mental health is essential just like good physical health.
There are various types of mental health issues you could struggle with. In any case, some are more common than others. Those common mental health issues include depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). For one to enjoy good mental well-being, it is paramount that you search for activities to help you on the improvement of your mental health.

Whenever I engage people in discussions about ways that mental health can be improved. I hear a lot of them talk about that luxury piece of time they carve every single day. I’ve realised that people only think about taking a luxurious bubble bath, having some rest, going to the cinema, and hitting the gyms as the only ways of taking care of themselves and improving their mental health. While all these are nice and great forms of maintaining mental health, they might still not work for some other people. This is the reason I want to introduce you to various hobbies that can help you improve your mental health.

Engaging in hobbies that can assist with improving your mental well-being. There are a good number of hobbies that are useful to your mental health. Research has revealed that having hobbies can reduce stress and reduce blood pressure and individuals who partake in one form of hobby, or another can feel the effect positively, even on subsequent days. Imagine picking a hobby that takes you outside. You can’t quantify all the added benefits that come with it. Well, I have barely any familiarity with where you reside, however, here in the UK all of us are mildly lacking a piece of Vitamin D, particularly in the colder time of year. So, the more time we spend outside the house the better. Indeed, even without any of the physical and mental benefits, isn’t it good to have something to anticipate or to keep your mind busy and occupied?

Hobbies can either connect you back with nature, allow you an opportunity to meet new people, or let you get some very much required solitude and a break from the crowd.

This is because walking is a great way to improve a person’s overall health and mental wellness. Walking is not just a form of exercise for the body, it helps your mind too. It also makes you feel accomplished and peaceful with yourself. I have a neighbor who is an avid walker, every morning she takes a walk with her dog. This neighbor of mine practically lives in her walking boots.  Whenever she sets out to do some walks, she puts on her Fitbit or tracker. She uses that to know how many steps or miles she has done. I learned from her that there’s this sense of achievement when great miles have been covered. To make walking great fun and memorable, carry your camera to take pictures of sites and scenery. You can even record events as you take your walk. There will always be new things to capture or record in your camera.

His dedication and enthusiasm are contagious and it’s always a pleasure to see him in action. Gardening consistently appeared to be simpler to me than it is, to the point that when I originally got my nursery, I proceeded to purchase each plant in the nursery place and pruned them, watered them, and observed the greater part of them bite the dust. So sad!

I’ve come to realize that gardening is much harder than it looks. This indeed makes it an incredible side interest since you’re mastering expertise while accomplishing something therapeutic. If you nurture any interest in gardening, start with only one plant. Just to avoid the mistake I made in the past.
